I have seen this style of shirt everywhere, on every woman, in every size. It can be the most flattering fit if worn correctly, but worn incorrectly it can be disastrous. I’m sure you’ve seen it as well…
It isn’t always the fault of the wearer; I’ll give you that. Most of the time this style blouse is made by the manufacturer in haste, not taking into account the actual size of a woman’s bust. This is the main problem. The line of this shirt cuts right across the widest part of the bust and the fabric below falls in such a way that it makes a woman’s entire upper body look like a linebackers.
So some quick tips on how to avoid this troublesome issue:
1. Make sure you pull the shirt below your bust. The seam is meant to sit underneath the breasts- not on top of them (see before & after comparison in fig. no. 1).
Notice how by having the seam below the bust it slims out the waistline and reduces the size of your shoulders. You should also make sure that you have the best fitting bra possible (this is something we will address in a future post).
2. Don’t be afraid to show some cleavage! I realize that by pulling the shirt down to the proper position it may cause some additional exposure of the ladies, but really- if you got it, flaunt it! (see fig. no. 2)
And you can always add a cute little tank or camisole underneath for some extra coverage.
3. Sometimes the shirt just doesn’t fit. This is not your fault, it is the fault of the manufacturer. Don’t buy it! It is a mistake.
A similar style, totally flattering and much easier to wear is a full wrap top. (See fig. no. 3) This style almost always needs a tank or cami underneath, but it does a great job of slimming the waist and accentuating the bust.
4. And in all circumstances don’t forget to accessorize! A necklace or brooch always adds life to an outfit and completes the look (see fig. no. 4).
Not to mention everyone will be jealous of your cool style.
Happy Dressing!
Xoxo
